The story: The Missing Wheel

Milo loved building things. On Saturday, he made a small car from a cardboard box. He painted it blue and added four bottle caps for wheels.

He pushed the car across the kitchen floor. Three wheels turned, but one wheel stayed still. The car bumped into a chair.

“This car will never work,” Milo said. He folded his arms.

His friend, Nora, sat beside him. “Let’s look closely,” she said.

Milo picked up the car. A drop of dried glue held one wheel against the box. He pulled gently, but the wheel would not move.

“Maybe I should throw it away,” he said.

“Or we could try a different tool,” Nora said. She brought a small wooden craft stick.

Milo slid the stick under the glue. He worked slowly so he would not tear the cardboard. At last, the glue came loose.

He set the car on the floor and gave it a push. All four wheels spun. The blue car rolled straight past the chair.

“It works!” Milo cheered.

Nora smiled. “What helped you fix it?”

Milo thought for a moment. “Looking closely, trying a new idea, and getting a little help.”

He found another box. This time, he wanted to build a bus.
